Installing and Uninstalling

Downloading Style XP

That latest version of Style XP can be downloaded from http://www.tgtsoft.com/download.php. Updates are provided as needed or requested by our current user base. To receive an email update, please go to the tgtsoft home page and add your name to the email list.

Installing the Software

Style XP 2.0 comes in three flavors: Female, Male, and the Update. If you have downloaded Style XP 2.0 once, then you only need to download the update (which is 30% of the original size). The download contains a ZIP file. You will need to open up the ZIP file by double clicking on it or "Open"ing the file after downloading it. The ZIP file will contain one file: the installation executable. Double-click on the installation executable to begin the installation process.

Please review the End Use Licensing Agreement (EULA) before continuing with the software installation. Please note that Style XP does install two services (StyleXPService and StyleXPHelper). These two services can be auto-unloaded when they start so that Style XP consumes no memory. Style XP will not touch any system files. Style XP will not collect any information or transmit any information to anyone. Style XP contains no "ads" or any other "hidden" software.

If you agree to the EULA, Style XP will always install software in the same place: the same drive as Windows® XP is installed in the

\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP directory. Temporary files are also stored in this directory. If you uninstall the software, it will delete this directory (so be careful not to store any themes there).

After the software installation is complete, Style XP will prompt you to test either the "Panther" skin or the "Coughdrop" skin depending on whether you installed the male or the female version respectively. If you are a first time installer of Style XP, please try the skin to make sure the software is working.

Style XP only supports almost all builds of Windows® XP, Tablet PC, and Server 2003. Please see our home page for more details.

Uninstalling the Software

To uninstall Style XP, click on the Start Button, then All Programs, then TGTSoft, Then Uninstall StyleXP. When uninstalling the software, please make sure you switch to a non-third party visual style (such as Microsoft's Luna) before rebooting. If you do not, your screen may be difficult to read after rebooting.

Applying Logon Screens can be dangerous if the author did not test the Logon code well. Sometimes the logon will freeze. If this happens, please reboot your computer. When you get to the logon screen that freezes hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice or three times to get to the normal logon screen. If this does not work, then reboot again and hit F8 when the boot screen choice is presented. Then go into safe mode. Run Style XP and set the Logon Screen back to XP Default.

Running the software

Style XP has three modes it can run in.
 • "Active". The software is present as a dialog box, ready for user input.
 • "Passive". The software is present in the system tray and can be double clicked to become "Active".
 • "Unloaded". The software has exited, but has allowed third party visual styles. This mode uses no memory and is recommended for users who do not have memory to spare.
See the options section to figure out which mode to run Style XP in. Remember that "Exit" will unload the software. "Hide" will place the software back into the system tray.

General Usage Notes

For most users, there are only a four buttons that need to be understood to use Style XP. Almost all of the Style XP sections "Themes", "Visual Styles", "Backgrounds", "Logons", "Icons", and "Boot Screens" have a similar button layout. The four buttons contained in almost every section are:

[Apply]

[Add...]

[Download...]

[Add Search Paths...]

The use and undestanding of these buttons will make Style XP much more enjoyable. Here are some default directories where theme parts go:

Themes -> C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Visual Styles -> C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\<name of visual style>

Wallpaper -> C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Wallpaper

Logons -> C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Logons

Icons -> C:\Windows\Resources\Icons

Boot Screens -> C:\Windows\Resources\Boot

For instance, with themes, first [Download...] a new theme. Make sure you download the .zip file into a known location. Then click the [Add...] button to add the .zip file. The new theme will appear in the Themes section. You can select it, which will preview it. Then click the [Apply] button. If you have themes in another location already, use the [Add Search Paths...] button. This logic will work for all similar sections of Style XP. It is all most users need to know to enjoy the full benefits of customizing their desktop.

Options

Summary

The "Options" tab allows users to control how Style XP starts up. You can enable or disable the system memory patch to allow third party visual styles. You can also choose the background skin or color to be used while running the software. Choosing a solid background color is less flashy, but it is easier on the eyes. Lastly, you can specify if Style XP is to remain in memory, or automatically unload itself at start-up.

Enable Style XP

This option allows you to enable and disable Style XP for third party Visual Styles. When Style XP is enabled, you can use third party Visual Styles. If you disable Style XP, you will only be able to use the Windows Classic and Windows XP (Luna) styles. When you disable Style XP, you will be set back to the default Windows XP style. Any theme that contains a third party Visual Style should not be applied with Style XP disabled. If you do so, the colors of the third party Visual Style will be applied to the classic look (the Windows 98 look). Depending on which colors are in the Visual Style, it may become difficult to read window text. Under most circumstances, you should have Style XP enabled.

If you choose to disable it, it will remain disabled the next time you reboot or use Style XP.

Run at Startup

This option allows you to keep Style XP running and accessible through an icon in your system tray. This can be useful for experimenting with Themes and Visual Styles. If you need to conserve memory, you can choose the ‘Use no Resources’ option. Style XP will run for a brief period when you start your computer, and after that zero system resources will be used by Style XP.

Style XP Background

This option allows you to choose how Style XP itself looks. You can use the default look that comes with Style XP, or if you prefer, you can choose to have the background be a solid color. If you select 'Use Default Skin' the program will use more memory. The background skins are located in the \Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\Skins\DefaultSkin
directory. They are stored as PNGs and can be changed. If you do change the PNGs, please back them up first. Also, remember to keep the PNG pixel width and height the same.

If you "Pick..." a color for your background, please make sure to pick a dark color. Picking a bright color, such as white, can make the screen unreadable!

Theme Apply Options

Reapply Theme at Startup

This option, when checked, will apply the current theme again when the computer boots up. This is necessary on some computer systems because the theme is not applied by default, or is applied improperly at startup. If your theme or icons are not correct, you may want to check this option.

Do not change resource bitmaps

This option is reserved for future use on Style XP 2.1.

Themes

Summary

Themes contain Visual Styles, Backgrounds, Cursors, Icons, Sounds, and Screen Savers. Themes are often confused with Visual Styles because changing a Theme can change your Visual Style (and a whole bunch of other things too!) A Theme comes from a .theme file which is usually found in your \Windows\Resources\Themes directory. Microsoft provides users with a default Theme known as Luna. Style XP will never change your Luna Theme. Instead, you will be prompted to create a new Theme if you do try to change it. Themes can be downloaded from ThemeXP.org. To add a new Theme, just download and add the ZIP file. You can also create, delete, and modify new Themes. Add a new "Search Path" to have Style XP auto-scan your drive for new Themes you might have downloaded or installed.

Previewing a Theme

When you click on the ‘Themes’ tab you will get a list of Themes on the left hand side.

Click on these entries to preview what is included in that Theme. To scroll, click on the scroll button in the upper right or lower right corners. Hold down the scroll button for fast scrolling. You can also scroll by using the PgUp, PgDn, Home, End, Down, and Up arrow keys. You can also scroll by using the mouse wheel found on most modern mice.

Visual Styles

Summary

Visual Styles are new to Windows XP. Microsoft spent many years developing visual styles to make sure they were compatible with older applications written for earlier versions of windows. For instance, for compatibility reasons, all Visual Styles must have a 4 pixel window frame border. New Visual Styles can be downloaded fom skin sites such as ThemeXP.org. To add a new Visual Style, just add the ZIP file downloaded from the site. You can also delete and modify new Visual Styles. Add a new "Search Path" to have Style XP auto-scan your drive for new Visual Styles you might have installed. If you apply a Visual Style, it will apply to the current Theme in use.

Previewing a Visual Style

When you click on the ‘Visual Styles’ tab you will get a list of Visual Styles on the left hand side.

Click on these entries to preview what is included in that Visual Style.

Most Visual Styles have three font sizes associated with them: Normal, Large, and Extra Large. The default is Normal. Large and Extra Large are useful for monitors tweaked to high pixel resolutions. Large Fonts are also easier on the eyes and can be useful for those of us who are visually impaired.

Backgrounds

Summary

Backgrounds are part of Themes. Backgrounds are also known as "wallpaper" or "desktop color". Background files are usually JPG, GIF, BMP, or HTML. JPG and GIF files get internally converted to BMP files by the Windows operating system. With Style XP, you can add and delete Backgrounds. If you apply a Background, it will apply to the current Theme in use.

Previewing a Background (Wallpaper)

When you click on the ‘Backgrounds’ tab you will get a list of Backgrounds (also known as Wallpaper) on the left hand side. Click on this column to select a Background to preview. The preview will appear in the upper right corner.

Background Position and Color

This section contains the different positions of a Background that you can preview and then apply. Click on 'Center' to center (but not stretch) the Background bitmap. Click on 'Tile' to tile your Background bitmap horizontally and vertically. Tiling is useful if your background bitmap is too small, but looks nice a repeating pattern. Click on 'Stertch' to stretch (or squeeze) a Background bitmap to pixel dimension of your display. Large, rich bitmaps usually stretch well.

The Background Color is also known as the Desktop Color. It is the color you will see if you have no Background bitmap chosen. It also the color you will see if the 'Center'ing the bitmap does not use the entire display area. If your Background bitmap takes up the entire display area, then the Background Color will not be very important. Changing this color, and then applying it, will change the Background Color of the curren Theme you are using.

This button will delete the Background you currently have selected. Be careful, you will not be prompted when deleting. Deleting cannot be undone.

Logons

Summary

Non-domain users (users who do not log on to a domain server) can change the way their Logon Scheme (welcome screen) looks. Logons are, by default, rebuilt to separate the resource bitmaps from the executable code to ensure that no viruses are present when downloading a LogonUI.EXE. You can also choose to use the original strings from your originally suppplied LogonUI.EXE file (the original one is the one located in the system32 directory). This is useful if you speak another language such as German, and wish to keep the logon text in German.

Previewing a Logon (Welcome Screen)

When you click on the 'Logons' tab you will get a list of Logons (also known as Welcome Screens) on the left hand side. Click on this column to select a Logon Scheme to preview. The Logon preview will appear in the upper right corner. The Logon preview is constructed by reading the resources of the LogonUI.EXE file. The preview is not always perfectly correct, but is usually quite accurate. If you spot any problems with the preview, you may wish to inform support@tgtsoft.com.

Logon Settings and Virus Free

Non-domain users can check the 'Welcome Screen' item to allow non-secure Logon to their computer. If this box is unchecked, Windows XP will default to the secure msgina.dll Logon. This will also happen if the LogonUI.EXE file (the Welcome Screen file) is corrupy.

Fast-User Switching allows users to switch quickly from one user to another user without shutting down any programs. If this check box is enabled, you may need to reboot for it to take effect. A quick to switch users is to use the Window + L key combination. The Window key is usually between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the lower left of the keyboard. It usually has the Windows logo on it.

'Always Rebuild Exe' is the default and we recommend that you keep it checked. When this option is checked, the LogonUI.EXE file will always be rebuilt to ensure that no viruses are present. The file that is rebuilt is always named 'CurrentLogon.EXE' and is located in the same path as the Style XP install (usually in C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\).
If the 'Always Rebuild Exe' option is not checked, the original EXE will be used. Style XP also support .LogonXP files from WindowBlinds. This file format is from Stardock. For a .LogonXP file, it is always rebuilt since the file format does not contain any executable code portions.

The 'Original Strings' option is useful if you speak another language. If this option is checked, the text strings from the original LogonUI.EXE file (the original one is located in the System32 directory) are used. Far East languages are supported with this feature.

Logon Tools

Click on 'User Manager..." to open the Control Panel version of the User Manager. This is a very useful shortcut to the control panel applet which can be hard to find otherwise. This control panel applet will also allow you to change the Logon Settings. You can also change your user picture (the chess piece, the frog, the flower, etc.) from this location. If you have never clicked on this button, we recommend it.

Search Paths...

Click on 'Search Paths...' to add a new Search Path for Style XP to scan new for Logon files. Style XP will automatically scan all Search Paths, and their subdirectories for .exe and .LogonXP files. It will then add this Logon Scheme to the list of available Logon Schemes to select from. This feature is very useful if you keep all your Logon Schemes in a specific directory.

Rename

Click on this button to choose a new name for the Logon Scheme you are currently previewing. Renaming can be a useful way to help organize Logon Schemes as Style XP will always display them in alphabetical order.

Reset to XP Default

Click on this button to reset your current Logon Scheme to the default LogonUi.EXE found in your System32 directory. If you are going to uninstall, we suggest clicking on this first to make sure you are not using a third party Logon Scheme.

Apply Logon

This 'Apply Logon' button will apply the Logon Scheme you are currently previewing to your system. Applying a Logon Scheme is global. It will apply to all users. You must have administrative privileges to use this function.

Add a New Logon

Click on this button to add a Logon Scheme to your list of Logon Schemes that is on your computer. This is the easiest way to add a Logon Scheme that you have downloaded. You can browse to a zip file that you have downloaded and Style XP will automatically unzip the contents where they need to go in order for you to use that Logon Scheme.

Download a New Logon

Click on this button to go to themexp.org and search for a new Logon Scheme to download. Once you download it, you may wish to click on the 'Add a New Logon' button.

This button will delete the Logon you currently have selected. Be careful, you will not be prompted when deleting. Deleting cannot be undone. For your own protection, Style XP will not allow you to delete the default Logon Scheme.

Icon Sets

Summary

Although icons are in Themes, Icon Sets are much more comprehensive. Themes (the .theme file) can only change certain icons such as Recycle Bin or My Computer. Icon Sets can change about 50 different common icons on you computer, including Email, Internet Explorer, Folders, and Control Panel. Icon Sets are usually .zip files. Style XP's .iconzip format is a zip file which should contain a .iconset file. The .iconset file is an XML file and can be edited by hand if necessary. Style XP supports third party Icon Sets such as Bee Icons' .bit format or Stardock's .ip and .iptheme formats. To support third party Icon Sets, you must download Icon Translate from the tgtsoft.com download page. With Style XP, you can add, delete, and even edit Icon Sets. If you apply an Icon Set, it will NOT apply to the current Theme in use. This can cause a conflict when a Theme is applied which contains references to icons such as My Computer. One solution is to remove the icon references from the .theme file. This will eliminate the conflict.

Previewing an Icon Set

When you click on the ‘Icons’ tab you will get a list of Icon Sets on the left hand side. Click on this column to select an Icon Set to preview. The preview will appear in the upper right corner. Certain Icon Sets are special.

"Before Style XP" are the icons in use when Style XP was first installed. This file is actually and XML file that sits in "C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\Before Style XP.iconset". This file can be edited by hand and applied.

"System Cache" are the icons currently in use by the operating system. This is not an icon set and cannot be edited or applied. It is simply a direct view of the icons inside the computer's memory.

"Windows XP Default" are the icons that Windows XP installs on a new system. This file is actually and XML file that sits in "C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\Windows XP Default". This file can be edited by hand and applied.

Editing the Icon Set

The preview of the Icon Set can be edited. Simply place the mouse over the icon you want to change, and click on it. For instance, to change "My Computer", click on the icon on the top left as shown below.

This will open up a Change Icon dialog box as shown below.

Click the Browse... button and choose a new .ico file to replace it with. You may also select a .icl file. Style XP will edit the .iconset for you and place the new .ico or .icl file in the .iconzip file.

Icon Sections

When an Icon Set is selected, you can see which Icons are in which sections by clicking on a specific Icon Section. This will change the preview to only display those icons.

Icon Shell Size

By default, Windows XP uses 32x32 pixel icons. Some people prefer that the Start button show small icons. Click on the "16" button. Some people have large computer displays and like larger icons. For this, click on the "48" button or even the "64" button. Only some icons used by the Shell will change to the new size. Usually the Start Panel and Desktop are affected.

Icon Tools

Click on 'Info..." to get information on the Author of the Icon Set.

Search Paths...

Click on 'Search Paths...' to add a new Search Path for Style XP to scan new Icon Sets. For Bee Icons .bit files, you must add a search path to the install of Bee Icons. Style XP will automatically scan all Search Paths, and their subdirectories for .zip, .iconset, .bit, .iconzip, .iptheme, and .ip files. It will then add this Icon Set to the list of available Icon Sets to select from. This feature is very useful if you keep all your Icon Sets in a specific directory.

Reset Icon Cache...

Click on 'Reset Icon Cache...' to delete the icon cache that Windows XP uses to cache icons. If you change many icons, sometimes the cache can become incorrect. If this is the case, it needs to be deleted. The system will slowly, over time, rebuild the icon cache.

Apply Icons

This 'Apply Icons' button will apply the Icon Set you are currently previewing to your system.

Add a an Icon Set...

Click on this button to add an Icon Set to your list of Icon Sets that is on your computer. This is the easiest way to add a Icon Set that you have downloaded. You can browse to a zip file that you have downloaded and Style XP will automatically unzip the contents where they need to go in order for you to use that Icon Set.

Download an Icon Set...

Click on this button to go to themexp.org and search for a new Icon Set to download. Once you download it, you may wish to click on the 'Add an Icon Set...' button.

Delete Selected Icon Set

This button will delete the Icon Set you currently have selected. Be careful, you will not be prompted when deleting. Deleting cannot be undone.

Boot Screens

Summary

Boot Screens are not in Themes With Style XP, you can add, delete, and even partially modify Boot Screens. When you apply a Boot Screen, it modifies a file called kernel.exe which is a copy of your ntoskrnl.exe file. The first time you click on the "Boot Screens" button, Style XP will attempt to add an entry to your C:\Boot.ini file. This entry is for the Boot Screen kernel. If you do not feel safe about this, do not allow Style XP to change your boot.ini file. If there are ever any problems in booting with Boot Screen kernel, please select the original kernel with the arrow keys when you computer first starts. If you do not like the 30 second timeout, you can edit this value with the "Edit Boot Timeout" button described in more detail in this section. If Style XP cannot find a valid boot.ini file, it will disable the Boot Screen section automatically.

Previewing an Boot Screen

When you click on the ‘Boot Screens’ tab you will get a list of Boot Screens on the left hand side. Click on this column to select an Icon Set to preview. The preview will appear in the upper right corner. Certain Boot Screens are special. By default, Style XP installs the "PirateIII" Boot Screen. Here is what the preview looks like.

"ntoskrnl" is the default ntoskrnl.exe that is installed on your system, with the default Boot Screen. This file cannot be deleted nor should it be.

The Boot Screen File

Some Boot Screens are in a zip file with an EXE. This is not the preferred format. The preferred format is a .bootscreen file. This file is a .zip file with a .ini file and various .BMP files. This file can be edited by an advanced user.

Style XP provides two options for users who apply Boot Screens.

"Blank Palette" refers to zeroing out the palette in the .BMP file and is recommended.

"Clear Overlays" refers to removing overlay .BMP file such as "Home Edition". This is also recommended.

Boot Actions

Edit Boot Timeout...

Click this button to change the default timeout in your C:\Boot.ini file. The default is usually 30 seconds. If this is too long, you may lower it to 5 seconds to speed up the boot process.

Convert .zip to .bootscreen

When an Boot Screen is selected, you can convert it to a .bootscreen file which has a much smaller size. It is recommended that you do this. Once converted, the .bootscreen file (which is really a zip file) can be edited by an advanced user. The 'ntoskrnl' file is a special file and cannot be converted.

.Bootscreen info...

Click to view information about the Author of the .bootscreen file.

Transparency

Summary

Transparency are not in Themes With Style XP, you can change the transparency value of the Taskbar, Star Panel, and Start Menus. Windows was not originally designed to handle a transparent Taskbar, Start Panel or Start Menu. Therefore, use of the transparency feature can be imperfect. The Taskbar is probably the most stable of the three and many people prefer to keep it transparent.

Enable Transparency

Currently, there are only three objects that can be made transparent. More are expected in the future for Style XP 2.1. Click to enable and view the trasnparent effect. To view the menus as Transparent, click on the Start Button then All Programs. Sometimes there is a delay in the transparent menu. This is currently by design and may be changed in Style XP 2.1.

Taskbar Transparency

Style XP provides five different transparency levels for the taskbar. Click the radio button to select the desired transparency. If you change themes, the taskbar may not be transparent and may need to be reset by Style XP.

Start Panel Transparency

These radio buttons control the transparency level for both the Start Panel and the Start Menu. Adjust the level to your liking. Different themes may have different transparency levels.

Rotations

Summary

The Rotate feature allows you to change Themes, Visual Styles, Backgrounds, Logons, or a combination on a Daily, Weekly, or per Logon basis. You can also choose not to Rotate at all (Never is the default). This feature is useful if you do not like viewing the same screen every time you logon. If you choose to rotate Themes, you cannot also rotate Visual Styles and Backgrounds because a Theme is composed of Visual Styles and Backgrounds.

Rotating Themes, Visual Styles, Backgrounds, and Logons

There are four different categories to rotate. Each category can be turned on and off. So, be certain to first select which category to rotate. You can rotate Themes, Visual Styles, Backgrounds, or Logons. You cannot rotate Themes and Visual Styles or Backgrounds at the same time because doing so would be confusing since a Visual Style is also part of a Theme.

To rotate Visual Styles you must first select the Visual Styles category tab (see above). This is a common oversight because the dialog defaults to Themes, not Visual Styles. For instance, if Theme rotation is turned off, it is possible that Visual Styles, Backgrounds, and Logons are all turned on. You must select each of the four tabs one by one to see which category is in focus for rotation.

For each Visual Style you choose to rotate, you can also choose the color and font you would like selected when rotation occurs. You can rotate all of the colors of a single Visual Style by adding the Visual Style to your rotation list one time for each color, then select a different color for each entry in the rotation list.

To rotate Backgrounds you must first select the Backgrounds category tab (see above). When you rotate a Background, you can also choose the position you want the Background image to appear in. Choose Center, Tile, or Stretch. You can also choose the color you would like as the Background Color when you choose Center as the Position. Remember, each rotation category has different properties associated with it.

Frequency

You can choose how often you rotate each category. You can choose to rotate at each Logon, Daily, or Weekly. All rotations occur during the logon process. The Logon Scheme will change for all users even if only one user has selected a different Logon Scheme. This is because Logon Schemes are stored in a global place in the Registry. If you choose to rotate Daily, a day starts 24 hours since the last rotation. For example if you logon for the first time at 23:00 (11 pm) at night, log off immediately, wait two hours, and then logon at 1:00 (1 am) no rotation will occur. The next rotation will occur at 23:00 of the new day (exactly 24 hours later). If you choose to rotate Weekly, the week starts exactly 7 days after the last rotation. It is not based on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.

Rotation Lists

Select which items you would like to rotate for each category by building a rotation list.

Use ‘Include’ to add an available item to your rotation list. Use ‘Exclude’ to remove an item from the rotation list. Use ‘Move Up’ and ‘Move Down’ to change the order of the items in the rotation list. Style XP remembers the last item it rotated and uses this list to determine the next item to rotate to. For Visual Styles, it is possible to have the sames Visual Style in Rotation more than once because each Visual Style can have more than one color scheme (As well as font size). For example, CoughDrop has seven color schemes. You can choose to rotate both CoughDrop Cherry and CoughDrop Grape.

Languages

Summary

Style XP supports twelve languages: English, German, Japanese, Swedish, Dutch, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese Simplified, Chinese, Magyar, Russian, and Korean. The support persons at TGT Soft do not speak other languages. The language skins are located in the \Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\Skins\DefaultSkin directory. Any XML file placed into this directory will automatically appear under the "Language" menu item on the menu bar of the Style XP program. DefaultSkin.XML is always the English version. Deutsche.XML is the German version and will appear as "Deutsch" in the menu. Japan.XML is the Japanese version and will appear as "Japanese" in the menu.

There are language XML files located in

C:\program files\tgtsoft\stylexp\skins\defaultskin

There are currently three files.

DefaultSkin.XML (English)

Deutsche.XML (German. Yes, we know, no 'e' at the end)

Japan.XML (Japanese)

If you copy the file DefaultSkin.XML to another name like... "Français.XML" (or whatever language name is best) then you can start editing it.

When you edit (you can use notepad) the XML you need to translate these sections:

<Strings>

<InXDays V="*some English text*"/>

<ForXDays V="%d *some English text*"/>

<Never V="*some English text*"/>

... and so on until...

</Strings>

For this first section, %d, %s, and other %letter must be preserved. %d is replaced with a digit. %s is replaced with a string.

Other useful hints:

== Carriage Return + Line Feed in XML

"<> == "<> or Quote, Less Than, Greater Than.

There is another section. You only need to edit these types of TAGs. Please change the Value section into Dutch.

<HeaderTitle Value= “*something in English*”/>

<HeaderMessage Value= “*something in English*”/>

<List Value= “*something in English*”//>

<TipList Value= “*something in English*”/>

In List and TipList use a double comma (,,) to mean one comma (,). Otherwise, one comma is the separator for the next item in the list. TipList is the help for the List.

To test your edits, in Style XP use “File…Reload Skin” and you should see your changes. Once you create the XML file in the DefaultSkin directory and reload Style XP, it should automatically appear in the menu under "Language."

Troubleshooting

Summary

Style XP is quite stable, but as with any software, there are bugs. If you think you have a Visual Style bug, please first switch to the default Windows XP Visual Style (Luna) and make sure the problem does not occur while using this Visual Style.

When uninstalling the software, please make sure you switch to a non-third party Visual Style (such as Microsoft's Windows XP Luna) before rebooting. If you do not, your screen may be difficult to read after rebooting.

Applying Logon Screens can be dangerous if the author did not test the Logon code well. Sometimes the logon will freeze. If this happens, please reboot your computer. When you get to the logon screen that froze hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice or three times to get to the normal logon screen. If this does not work, then reboot again and hit F8 when the boot screen choice is presented. Then go into safe mode. Run StyleXP and set the Logon Screen back to XP Default.
